About Me

Hello everyone!
I'm Yelena and I'm a graduate student in South Korea. I lived in Daejeon for 5 years. It's a peaceful and green city and I miss it a lot :) Recently I live in Seoul, it's a beautiful and interesting city in it's own way. But I haven't been living in Korea for my entire life. My grandparents were Koreans by origin who emigrated during the Thirties, so my parents and me were born in the Soviet Union. When I was a child my grandfather often sadly told me he wanted to go back to his motherland, but he couldn't have left the USSR due to strict governmental regulations. Listening to my grandfather I got a desire to visit the land of my ancestors and here I am. My mother tongue is Russian, and I wanted to learn Korean language as well, so I've been mastering it for four years. Since I came here I fell in love with this country, people and culture, and I created my blog to share the thoughts and feelings about Korea. I try to cover anything that relates to this country, but usually I write about my personal experiences and the places I visited. That's why I named my blog "Eyes in Korea".
I write my posts in English, however my native language is Russian. I wanted to study English, so I thought it would be great to improve my writing skills through the blog. It's quite hard for a non-native speaker to write in English, so I hope my readers will excuse some mistakes in my writing. I'll get better, I promise :)
In November 2010 I was selected as a member of the "World Students in Korea" (WSK) program, which is supported by Korean Government. This program gathers international students in Korea. Our objective is a blog through which we have to promote Korea. In February 2011 I was also selected as a Worldwide Korean blogger for the Korea Blog. This program is supported by the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS). Furthermore, I was a communicator for the Koreabrand.net. I love my blog, because thanks to it I have been participated in the such interesting programs and met lots of good people with the common interest  blogging!
That's all for now, enjoy reading and vivid pictures :D
Kiss~
